Lorne W.

I’m a Virginia-based wildlife and landscape photographer, most often found exploring the forests, overlooks, and back roads of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains.

I don't think photography has ever really been the goal.

The goal has always been to experience the world as it is.

There are countless places I'll never have enough time to see, but I'd like to experience as much of this world as I can while I'm here. Not just the famous landmarks, but the quiet forests, mountain trails, empty coastlines, small towns, and the wildlife that calls them home. I think there's something worth discovering almost everywhere if you're willing to slow down long enough to notice it.

Photography became a way to preserve those experiences.

A photograph can never replace standing somewhere in person, but it can hold onto a moment that would otherwise fade with time. It captures a memory, a feeling, a brief encounter with a wild animal, or a landscape that looked completely different just a few minutes later. I also genuinely enjoy the process. There's something satisfying about creating an image that reflects what I saw and felt in that moment.

If these photographs have a purpose beyond preserving my own memories, I hope they're able to share a little of that experience with someone else. Maybe they'll inspire you to visit a place you've never been, pay closer attention to the wildlife around you, or simply step outside for a while. The world has an incredible amount of beauty to offer, and I think we often move too quickly to notice it.

This collection is simply my attempt to document that journey.

My hope is that one day, when I look back on my life, I can honestly say that I experienced the world. If these photographs allow someone else to experience even a small part of it alongside me, then they've served their purpose.
